Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are used on BookReef (“BookReef”, “we”, “us”) — both on our own website and dashboard at bookreef.co, and on the public author pages we host. It complements our Privacy Policy. Questions: [email protected].

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by a website. Similar technologies (such as local storage and tracking pixels) can serve the same purposes. Below we use “cookies” to cover all of these.

Cookies on our website and dashboard

Our own site and app use only strictly necessary cookies. They do not require consent:

• Authentication cookies (names starting with sb-) — set by our authentication provider (Supabase) to keep you signed in to the dashboard. Session-scoped or short-lived.
• Consent and preference storage— where we need to remember a choice you made (for example a cookie-consent decision), it is stored on your device so we do not ask again.

Our marketing site and dashboard use Vercel Analytics and PostHog for privacy-friendly, cookielessmeasurement: neither sets cookies or tracks you across sites. PostHog keeps a random identifier in your browser’s local storage (first-party only) so return visits are counted correctly.

Cookies on public author pages

Author pages hosted by BookReef (for example bookreef.co/yourname) may use:

• Download-delivery cookie (brdl_<download>) — strictly necessary. Set only after you submit your email to receive an author’s free bonus, so we can deliver the file to you. It is signed, limited to that download’s page and expires after 15 minutes.
• Advertising pixels enabled by the author(Meta Pixel and/or TikTok Pixel) — optional. Some authors connect their own advertising pixel to measure the ads they run. These are third-party tools that may set their own cookies and process data under the provider’s and the author’s responsibility.

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, advertising pixels on an author page do notload until you accept them through the consent banner shown on that page. If you decline, the page works exactly the same — only the pixel stays off. You can change your choice at any time via the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of the author page, and your choice is remembered per page in your browser’s local storage.

• Meta Pixel — operated by Meta Platforms. See Meta’s privacy policy.
• TikTok Pixel — operated by TikTok. See TikTok’s privacy policy.
• Polar— our merchant of record for paid plans. The checkout uses cookies strictly necessary to process your payment. See Polar’s privacy policy.

How to control cookies

• Use the consent banner (and the “Cookie preferences” link) on author pages.
• Configure your browser to block or delete cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break sign-in or gated downloads.
• Opt out with the providers directly (see the links above) or via tools such as youronlinechoices.eu.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the date above.
